Deepak Soni

Deepak Soni is Head of Direct Commercial and an SME expert. Born and bred in Newcastle, he worked in his family’s successful clothing business since he was knee-high. Deepak’s also been behind a string of start-ups himself and says: “I’m a big supporter of small businesses. I’ve been around them nearly all my life and I know the kind of people who run them, because they’re people like me. These businesses are at the heart of our economy.”

Ronnie Brown

Ronnie Brown is Group Digital Manager at Hiscox. He moved into digital in 1999 as he was fascinated with new technology and its effects on human behaviour, particularly in marketing where he’s always worked. He tries desperately to keep his geeky tendencies at bay but always gives himself away at some point. He’s spent time both agency (Outside Line, WEMS & Quirk) and client side (EMI Records, Reed Exhibitions) and has been a member of the IAB Social Media Council for the last 3 years.

Alan Thomas

Alan Thomas is a small business expert at Hiscox, advising technology and media SMEs. An avid fan of the Wales rugby team, despite growing up in Somerset, because of his Welsh family, Alan traded in country life for a career in insurance in London. He says: “Entrepreneurs fascinate me because they bring ideas to life. I work with them every day so I hear a lot about the challenges they face and I want to share that knowledge to help other SMEs succeed.”

Annabel Venner

Annabel Venner is Global Brand Director at Hiscox, and a member of The Marketing Society and Financial Service Forum. An ambition of hers is to build her own house and her alternative career path would have been to be a pilot in the RAF. Previously Annabel spent nine years at Coca-Cola working across a number of brands including; Coke, Diet Coke and Coke Zero, Powerade and Oasis.

Matthew Webb

Matthew Webb is the Head of Technology and Data Risks at Hiscox, specialising in insurance for small and medium sized technology and media firms. Inspired by his father, who had built up his own independent insurance brokerage in their home town Tunbridge Wells, Matthew also took the leap into the world of insurance and has focused on products for commercial enterprises ever since.

Samantha Newman

Samantha Newman specialises in developing Hiscox’s professional indemnity products for small businesses working in a range of professions. She was recruited to look with a "fresh pair of eyes" at the opportunity for professional indemnity within non-traditional professions - finding new sectors to target and new products to offer them. She is building a “collection” of interesting professions (for example: Royal Protocol Consultant, Maze Designer, Ice Sculptor) – feel free to nominate others to add to her collection! In her spare time, Sam is taxi-driver to two teenagers, is a regular theatre-goer, and confesses to a secret passion for Marillion!

Rosie Horrod

Rosie is a commercial underwriter, and specialises in insurance for small businesses and professionals. She is based in London, but makes frequent visits to our Glasgow office. Rosie studied in Cambridge, and wrote her masters' dissertation on visual culture, dress, and the Northern European Renaissance. She particularly likes working with clients in professional creative industries such as technology, marketing and communications as she is interested in design, brands, and style. 'Working with start-ups is particularly fascinating as they are always so passionate about their ideas and their vision. It's great to see good ideas come to life.'

Jiveen is a Senior Underwriter for Hiscox’s technology and media clients. It’s an area he knows well as he used to be a web designer himself before deciding he’d rather insure the risks than create them! Currently based in Glasgow to cover the North of England and Scotland for Hiscox, Jiveen is originally from New Zealand, moving over to the UK in 2003.
